Locust has damaged many crores of rupees crops in India. These locusts first came from India Pakistan border to India. These locusts first entered Rajasthan, then Madhya Pradesh, now these swarms are affecting the areas of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Last year, these locusts attacked in the areas of Gujarat when they damaged 25000 hectares of crop.
Let us now tell you with the help of the map how this locust reached India
Locusts are the main family members of the grasshopper. Locusts and grasshoppers are the same in appearance, but locusts can exist in two different behavioral states (solitary and gregarious) but they both belong to the family of Acrididae.
Generally, these insects live alone, but due to some circumstances, they form a swarm or group of them. These circumstances can be of increase of chemical serotonin this chemical makes a normal locust, make a swarm, and causing damage of crops
Why this chemical serotonin formed in the locust?
When these locusts are overcrowded or increase, this situation results in swarming or an increase in physical stimulation of the Hind legs causing an increase in the level of serotonin. These cause locusts to:
1.Change in color
2. Eat much more
3. Breed much more
4. They become gregarious from solitary nature
